Questions answered!
HOW DOES THE EPA KNOW THAT THESE PRODUCTS WORK ON SARS-COV-2?
Recent testing and understanding of the virus has given the EPA the ability to perform adequate testing and all products we use are listed on the EPA's List-N as well as approved by the CDC for their efficacy and safe usage. They are tested to be effective based on:
· Demonstrated efficacy against a harder-to-kill virus.
· Qualified for the emerging viral pathogens claim; or
· Demonstrated efficacy against another human coronavirus similar to SARS-CoV-2.
SARS-CoV-2 and the appropriate dwell time needed to eliminate the virus.
Question! I can’t tell if the product I’m interested in is on the list or not. Can you help me?
When purchasing a product, check if it's EPA registration number is included on their List-N. If it is, you have a match and the product can be used against SARS-CoV-2. You can find this on the product label – just look for the EPA Reg. No. These products may be marketed and sold under different brand names, but if they have the same EPA registration number, they are the same product.
The primary products included on their list may have more recognizable brand names, but there are often “distributor products” that are identical to them.
Although distributor products frequently use different brand names, you can identify them by their three-part EPA Reg. No. The first two parts of the EPA Reg. No. match the primary product. A third set of numbers represents the Distributor ID number. For example, EPA Reg. No. 12345-12-2567 is a distributor product with an identical formulation and efficacy to the primary product with the EPA Reg. No. 12345-12. If EPA Reg. No. 12345-12 is on our list, you can buy EPA Reg. No. 12345-12-2567 and be confident you’re getting the same thing.

Effect of low-concentration chlorine dioxide gas against bacteria and viruses on a glass surface in wet environments
Methods and Results: We set up a test room (39 m3 ) and the ClO2 gas was produced by a ClO2 gas generator that continuously releases a constant low concentration ClO2 gas. Influenza A virus (Flu-A), feline calicivirus (FCV), Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli were chosen as the model microbes. The low-concentration ClO2 gas (mean 0Æ05 ppmv, 0Æ14 mg m)3 ) inactivated Flu-A and E. coli (>5 log10 reductions) and FCV and S. aureus (>2 log10 reductions) in the wet state on glass dishes within 5 h. Conclusions: The treatment of wet environments in the presence of human activity such as kitchens and bathrooms with the low-concentration ClO2 gas would be useful for reducing the risk of infection by bacteria and viruses residing on the environmental hard surfaces without adverse effects. Significance and Impact of the Study: This study demonstrates that the low concentration ClO2 gas (mean 0Æ05 ppmv) inactivates various kinds of microbes such as Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, enveloped and nonenveloped viruses in the wet state.

According to the invention, there is provided chlorine dioxide gas for use in the treatment of a disease caused by respiratory virus infection.
Chlorine dioxide gas has strong oxidative power and sterilizing power as well as strong virus deactivating power. For this reason, by exposing the respiratory virus to chlorine dioxide gas, the respiratory virus can be deactivated.
In this specification, the term “deactivation” refers to a condition of e.g. respiratory virus being destroyed, thus becoming unable to proliferate in a host, or a condition of the respiratory virus being still active, but hardly capable of proliferation in a host.
Therefore, if chlorine dioxide gas is supplied to a certain space and the concentration of the gas within the space is maintained at such a concentration as to deactivate the respiratory virus, even if respiratory virus is newly introduced into the space, this respiratory virus can be deactivated immediately. Accordingly, it is possible to prevent virus infection to the animal present within that space.

Antiviral Effect of Chlorine Dioxide against Influenza Virus and Its Application for Infection Control
The Open Antimicrobial Agents Journal, 2010, 2, 71-78
Chlorine dioxide (ClO2) has a strong antiviral effect, and can disinfect the surface of object and the air in space. In recent study on interaction between ClO2 and protein, ClO2 oxidatively modified tyrosine and tryptophan residues, and the protein was structurally denatured. Since hemagglutinin and neuraminidase of influenza virus A/H1N1 were inactivated by the reaction with ClO2, it is likely that denaturation of the proteins caused inactivation of the virus. A low concentration (0.03 ppm) of ClO2 gas, where people can stay for a long period of time without any harmful effect, prevented the death of mice caused by infection of influenza virus delivered as aerosol. We review current information based on the efficiency of ClO2 solution and gas, and also discuss the application of ClO2 against influenza pandemics outbreak.
